Books worth rereading, stories of complicity, and make or break endings

This Month in Books | October 2024

Hey readers!

I am so excited to share the next installment of my new podcast series This Month in Books. In these episodes, I’m joined by my friend Liz Hein to, quite simply, chat about books. We check in about what’s new and noteworthy in the literary world and then each share a handful of books that deserve more than an Instagram caption review.

In this episode, Liz shares the prize list that has made her reading life exceptional this month, a translated book that I am also obsessed with, and a backlist title by an author whose Pulitzer winner she can’t get out of her head. I share a slew of comfort zone reads, which for me, means a lot of Brit Lit…I’m sorry, I am who I am. I also share my thoughts on one of the only nonfiction titles I’ve read this year and why it reminded me of a favorite classic. Plus I’m talking about two book that I’m not totally sure if, when, or how I’ll review otherwise because of some complicated feelings about them.

If you want to learn more about this series and listen to the inaugural episode for free, check out last month’s post. I can’t tell you how much fun I’m having working with Liz to bring you these literary conversations. This month she bumped a bunch of books up my TBR and patiently sat through several toddler interruptions and a long figure skating tangent. She’s the best. I am thrilled to be bringing this series to you and so thankful to the paid subscribers and Patreon members who make this possible.

This month I’ve also included the Substack generated transcript for those who don’t enjoy the audio format. I’m new to this feature, so please feel free to reach out and let me know how effective it is!
