This Month in Books | April 2025

Welcome to This Month in Books, an exclusive podcast series for FictionMatters subscribers. In these monthly chats we’ll check in about what’s making news in the literary world and share a handful of books we need to discuss.

This month we’re chatting about the fact that Americans aren’t reading (but want to be) and wondering if a new Simon & Schuster-style plan can have any effect on that. We’re also each sharing 4-5 books. Liz’s lineup includes several of her most anticipated books of the year that weren’t necessarily huge hits along with a couple of books that surprised her in the best way. I’ve got a selection of older books including nonfiction cultural commentary, a past Booker winner, and a 16th-century epic poem. How is that for variety?
