April was full of great books, most of which will be appearing in the Paperback Summer Reading Guide on June 1st. But some of what I finished last month I’m free to share with you now. This was a particularly interesting month of ranking books, not because the rankings themselves were challenging, but because I really enjoyed every single book I’m talking about today. The book at the bottom of this list is something I devoured, cackled at, puzzled over, and thoroughly discussed. One of these books made me fall for a genre I typically avoid and another reminded me how powerful speculative fiction can be. To top it off, two of these are best book of the year contenders.
