Voice is Anne Tyler's strength, I think. Take The Accidental Tourist. You say Three Days in June feels a bit underdeveloped. I sometimes wonder if more established writers tend to be less pushed by their editors. A little unwanted prodding can deepen a story in ways the writer later appreciates. Happy to hear about Forna and Schlee. Both books sound wonderful.
