It's hard to read all the books you want to read, process them, etc. I like to write reviews, and that takes time, too. I hate putting down books and giving up -- because it feels like giving up, but it happens. I need more books in-hand and fewer on a screen. Nothing I like less than reading on a screen, but it's the only way to gobble up more books without my wife giving me the eye for buying another physical book. haha I think you have a great approach here, and I'm going to look at this list again and think about how I can pull some of these ideas into my own 2024.

I so much agree with all your points in the list!

I decided for a no buy year for 2024, because I have so many unread books and I want to savory all the stories I yet have to discover! I have a 3,5 year boy and my reading time is little since I became a mom so audiobooks really helped me with reading more books (especially while I am working) but I agree with you when you say that you want to switch to paper if you want to fully experience the book you are listening. More classics for me too but I don't want to have too many tbr books because I would became anxious and I would surely experience some FOMO! 😅

Cheers to a slow reading 2024! All the best from Italy!

I really don’t like hardback books. I’m a trade paperback gal and if u throw in French flaps (like Europa), it is perfect. I usually get roped into hardbacks cause of new releases. I am going to try and decrease buying these books. I’m thinking no more than 10 (this would cover book club choices). Many times though, I can find a paperback from Blackwell’s or sometimes an ARC.

Besides the thoughtful choices, that is why I appreciate your book club selections…paperbacks!!

I feel the same about trade paperbacks. The best. But, yes, I do sometimes buy hardbacks when I want a new release. I justify it thinking that they’re easier to sell, at least.

My 2023 reading brought some of those same lessons, though my 2023 was much more about what NOT to do. In 2024 I’m reading slower, picking up bigger books, and sticking with nonfiction only on audio.

Didn’t you love The Swimmers? It made my honorable mentions this year as well - but the rest of these books I haven’t heard of so I’ll stick them on my TBR. Excited to read more.

I learned that in order for me to engage with audiobooks I either have to hate the book (weird but true) or (it seems) it has to be a good murder mystery which is a genre I don’t gravitate toward in print at all, so that was an unexpected discovery.

I love the goal of slowing down to really engage with reading! Going to try to keep that in mind as I read this year.
