The Map of Love has been on my TBR for -- I kid you not -- at least 20 years. I bought it ages ago and just never got around to it. I see it in a stack sometimes and think "oh yeah, that looks good" but I don't pick it up. It's not even on my Goodreads because it precedes Goodreads for me. Oh, and I really liked The Housekeeper and the Professor, and I'm assuming you read The Memory Police?
It is so good! If you have time for a big long book this summer, I highly recommend it. And yes I really liked The Memory Police! I learned that it, The Housekeeper and the Professor, and Mina's Matchbox are all part of a tryptic, so now I need to read Mina!
The Housekeeper and the Professor is SO GOOD!! Also, I just started A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James based on your rec. I am surprised by how much I’m loving it because the description would make me think it wasn’t for me.
Sara, you continue to be the Queen of Book World on the internet!! Your content is worth every penny 😊
I’ve read and loved three of these - the Map of Love, Nevada and Hot Milk - great recs! And I just read and loveddddddddd Season of the Swamp by Yuri Herrera this (Australian) summer gone so I’m REALLY keen to get to Signs Preceding the End of the World. I don’t know if you’ve read Ahdaf Soueif’s other book In the Eye of the Sun, which is 800+ pages - it’s very different, lots of Middlemarch passages quoted. I remember enjoying it when I was much younger but the love story is kind of torturous.
I've owned Nevada for a couple of years, and read my first Peters' this year (Stag Dance). I'm excited to push Nevada up my TBR and read Detransition Baby, and explore more important fiction work by trans authors.
Hot Milk, along with the others, is creeping up my long list as well. Thanks as always!
You've sold me on The Housekeeper and the Professor - I loved Dinosaurs! This is a great reminder that I need to go back through your previous guides:)
I’ve heard great things about NEVADA. I feel like it’s gotta go on the TBR.
I think you would like that one. It’s voicey in a really effective way. And stuff happens!
You had me at “White Lotus theme music” for Hot Milk!
It won't disappoint!

Would any of these be particularly good on audio?
