I think I need to try Dr No! And as soon as I you mentioned love triangle in Immortality I immediately downloaded Anatomy- what didn't work for you is actually one of my buzzword tropes, give me all the love triangles! I have a large Yeti that I use for my morning coffee too- you can't beat it for keeping coffee hot all morning
I was disappointed in The Dance Tree. The Mercies was a surprise hit for me on audio a couple of years ago (despite me not being a huge historical fiction fan) and The Dance Tree covered lots of the same themes but didn’t really work for me in the same way.
I'm interested in reading The Mercies now. Because I liked The Dance Tree just fine but a lot of it fell flat for me. I liked her writing and she has a great ability to bring historical details to life so I'll try another of hers...especially hearing that you enjoyed it!
I am definitely reading Pineapple Street next!!! Just catching up on my inbox and this was so fun to read. Thank you! During the Oscars I had all of these ideas about books/novels matching the dresses. So when you mentioned that literary historical seems to be having a come back, I thought of Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson -- did you notice how closely Eva Longoria's art-deco inspired dress matched that cover? Anyway, love this newsletter!! xo

Yes! Definitely pick up Anatomy then!!
Also, I’m so contrary - everyone wants to hear what you think of Pineapple Street and I want to hear what you think of the other three!!
Well I started Pineapple Street today and....meh. So I'll definitely get to at least one of these others!!

Someone could build a great TBR list based on recommendations by Ezra Klein’s guests.
Absolutely!
You have totally sold me on Birnam Wood. I love deliciously wordy sentences that just nail an observation. Thanks for your review.
I know this is a teeny tiny note at the bottom, but y'all, do NOT SLEEP ON PRE-CUT PARCHMENT PAPER, it changed my life!
LOL, in book news, I am normally not a historical fiction person, but your write-up of The Dance Tree had me adding it to my TBR!

Have you read Dictionary of Lost Words, by Pip Williams? Beautiful writing.
Not yet. Thanks for the rec!
