Completely agree with you on Percival Everett, and the Pulitzer. Why did they have to say all that and diminish how amazing this book is?! It feels like there’s a little bit of unconscious racism here as well. That book was amazing. And it should’ve been included in the first round.
Thank you for linking to the of books about women without children (especially today). A few I hadn't heard of and have now added to my list, and a couple that are on my shelf that I'll be prioritizing. (Another Substacker, Kelly Johnson of The Opt-Out) is doing a slow readalong of Motherhood by Sheila Heti and I'm VERY excited about it (in case anyone else is interested).
Happy Mother’s Day!! I was recently thinking about what parenting books you’ve come across since becoming a mom that you’ve enjoyed!! I had my first babe last year (he’s 7.5 months) and I am very interested in reading Second Life! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
I’ll keep you posted! I have not been very good at reading parenting books. I’ve found that when I do I start thinking about what I “should” do and let go of my intuition. For baby stuff I threw everything out the window because I had an impossible baby and everything I read made me feel like a failure. For slightly bigger kids I have taken a few things from Hunt, Gather, Parent and How to Talk so Little Kids Will Listen!
I'm so excited for the PSRG to be released a little earlier! So looking forward to it 😊
Thanks, Lauren! I hope it’s everything you’re looking for!

Yes to all of this!
My husband just got me SECOND LIFE for Mother’s Day! I was on the fence about it, but reading the Atlantic review convinced me! Thanks for sharing!
Oh good! If you get to it before I do (likely!) let me know what you think.

Oh yay!! I think you will enjoy reading that as part of a read along. I’ll try to remember to share next week!

I read Disgrace as part of my read my shelf goal in January and really really liked it. I will be excited to hear what you think when you get to it.
