Reading Murderland and I COMPLETELY agree. I love Fraser’s writing style, but I’m not sure I see what she’s doing on a macro level. Oh man, I would loveeeee to hear stories about your interactions with the skaters you grew up with! I am also obsessed with the lore episodes. Adam is SUCH a good storyteller!

Yes! That is exactly right! And yes Adam is so good! Maybe I’ll have to start a chat about figure skating gossip this Olympic season 😂

Sense and Sensibility was my introduction to Austen and holds a special place in my heart. I also don't consider it my favorite, but every time I revisit it I wonder why. I also recently listened to the audio version, while reading along with the annotated version. It was a fun way to read it.

Yes! It’s so good but somehow always overshadowed. I haven’t read an annotated version of S&S…I should do that!

I’m on a weeks waitlist at the library for murderland so now I’m definitely only reading for free

Yea I think that’s wise. Worth your time but you don’t need it on your shelves.

Murderland is on my list because I have lived in Seattle for over 20 years and always wonder why so many serial killers are from the PNW. Now I am interested in seeing her writing style.

The Last Samurai is so good. Wild how it can be simultaneously so erudite and so propulsive and so readable. Excited for your thoughts!

I am reading Murderland right now. I’m about 20% in and agree about the disjointed writing style. I keep waiting for it to find some rhythm or flow so I guess I need to adjust my expectations. I find the subject matter compelling though so I’ll keep reading.

We are going to Cornwall and the Cotswolds at the end of the month. It happens that my reading list has three weeks of Shakespeare (Stratford-upon-Avon) right now, and a couple of weeks ago I read a portion of Mallory’s La Morte D’Arthur. Merlin’s castle and Tintagel, Arthur’s Castle, are in Cornwall. Plus the musical Pirates of Penzance—Penzance is in Cornwall, too. Hopefully I can squeeze in a little Austen but it will be a stretch. I feel like you warned me off JCO’s new book, so thank you. At least on audio I find I don’t like some things. Looking forward to hearing about your trip!

I’m impressed by your UK reading lineup! I should try to fit in a King Arthur book!

Don't be that impressed! I'm reading through a year-long list from Ted Gioia (he's the Honest Broker here on Substack). Pretty soon I'll be on to the French philosophers...sigh.
