One remnant of my past teaching life is feeling like summer is over when the calendar turns to August. In Colorado, schools start in mid-to-late August and—as a teacher—I always had to go back for meetings and planning the first week of the month. If you’re still solidly in summer mode (and I hope you are!) be sure to check out my 2023 Paperback Summer Reading Guide. You can download the Summer Shortlist for free and get 12 fantastic backlist titles perfect for the last days of the season. Upgrade to paid to get the full guide and all the goodies that come with it! There’s also an option to purchase the guide as a standalone if don’t want to sign up for a subscription.

For this month’s book list, I’ve rounded up some books I’ve read in the last year (or so) that I would love the opportunity to teach. I may not be going back to the classroom anytime soon, but my teacher brain can’t help but try to curate curriculum.
