A couple weeks ago I was at my local independent bookstore and I saw a table display with the subtitle “weird books for weird people.” I was instantly drawn to it.

I love a weird book…especially a weird little book. The addition of the diminutive matters to me because as much as I love a strange story, I’m not always up for 300+ pages of weird. There are exceptions, of course. I will read a Mona Awad book of any length, and occasionally a weird epic like Namwali Serpell’s The Old Drift really does it for me. But, for the most part, I believe that brief is better when it comes to weird.

So, inspired by that display, today I have 20 weird little books of my own accompanied by a one sentence pitch. If you need a dose of the strange in your reading life, one of these might be right for you!

This display was very tempting, but none of them came home with me this time.
