Friday Mood Recs: Three infinitely discussable short novels

It’s my turn to choose the book for my in-real-life book club, and I’m trying to find something short but infinitely discussable. Many of my book club members are short on time and the turnover between meetings is quick, so we need something with a lower page count to ensure as many people as possible have a chance to read it. Plus I’m in the midst of reading books for my Paperback Summer Reading Guide, so I need to look out for myself by choosing something easy to fit in.

While I was combing through my shelves (I’d like to pick a book I already own because I own so many!) I stumble across three short books that would make excellent book club selections. These books are low in terms of page count but dense in terms of meaning. They’re all books that are open to interpretation because, in my experience, easy answers limit conversation. So while I’ve yet to choose my IRL book club’s next read, I thought I’d share these highly discussable books in case you find yourself in a similar plight.

P.S. As much as I love a maximalist read, I am also a big fan of novellas. I’m always impressed when authors are able to fit so much emotional depth into a piece of short fiction. Here are some other lists of novellas I’ve compiled over the years.
