I know this best of the century list is so last week at this point, but I don’t care. It’s occupied way too much of my brain space over the last 10 days to not write about it at least one more time!

But before I get into my favorites, least favorites, and TBR headliners, I have something very fun to tell you about. This week I got to be part of a roundtable on a bonus episode my friend

Traci Thomas
’ podcast The Stacks. First, Traci interviewed Gilbert Cruz, editor of the NYT Book Review and then she had
Lupita Reads
,
Hunter Mclendon
, and me on to share our thoughts on the list as a whole. The conversation was really fun with a little bit of snark and side eying, but also just a joyful conversation about all things books. You can find that episode below and you should know that I share an additional book I’d remove from the list as part of that discussion!

Unabridged: That New York Times List Discussed and Debated
This edition of The Stacks Unabridged is dedicated to the New York Times’ 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. First we talk with Gilbert Cruz, the editor of the NYT Book Review, about the creation of the list and all the excitement it generated. Then, we welcome a panel of readers - Sara Hildreth, Hunter McClendon and Lupita Aquino - to discuss and debate the list, sharing our biggest takeaways, what we loved and hated, and which books we would add. We also try to figure out what the list says about US culture at large…

Alright, let’s get to the books! Just for an extra bit of fun, I reordered my favorites based on how I would rank them…
