Friday Mood Recs: Five Brit Lit classics I love
The books that made me an Anglophile and an English teacher
During my tenure as a high school English teacher, I grew to love the American literature curriculum. In my personal reading life, I’ve began to seek more translated and international fiction. But as an early reader and a student myself, I was most captivated by British Literature. For my teenage self, there was something captivating about these books set in manor houses and windswept moors. While as an adult I recognize that there’s much to unpack there, there’s no denying the greatness of these books and the impact they had on me as a reader.
Since I’m heading to England this week, I thought it would be fun to share five of my favorite works of classic British literature. These range from the stories that made me fall in love with literature to the ones I most enjoyed teaching. Though this isn’t a post filled with under-the-radar gems, I hope it might inspire you to pick up a book you haven’t thought about since high school.
