Friday Mood Recs: Books to curl up with for the coziest week of the year
Magical stories, wintery settings, and epic tomes to fill the Christmas to New Year's time vortex
There’s something magical about the week between Christmas and New Years. For many of us, this is a week with little or no (paid) work to be done and the Christmas bubble has burst leaving a slow emptiness in days that had previously been packed with activity. It’s one of those time vortices in the year when it’s easy to lose track of the day of the week and totally forget about the outside world.
Now this isn’t the case for everyone, but if it is for you, please soak it all up for the rest of us! During my teaching years, this slow, cozy week was one of my best and favorite times to read. I love reading curled up under a blanket, and without grading or planning to be done, it felt like a hard-earned indulgence. My own experience with this week has certainly changed since having a baby and become a full-time writer and reader. I dearly miss the days of sitting under a blanket, sipping warm beverages and reading all day. I’m hoping I can arrange it with my family to fit at least one full day of reading into this lost week and recapture some of the magic!
For those who do get a full week of cozy reading or those just hoping to channel that feeling into the time you do have, today I’m sharing an abundance of recommendations for what to read during the coziest week of the year. Of course I have some cozy reads, but I’m also sharing exceptionally worthwhile tomes, magical stories, and novels with wintery settings—all books I’d love to lose myself in during this special week. I hope you find something that will help you capture the feeling of all-day blanket-and-tea reading, regardless of what the week has in store for you.
